happy thanksgiving

happy turkey day, from our house to yours! we have been exploring the farm in the rain, riding grown-ups and pretending that they are the horses downstairs (sam and ellie), cooking, cooking, cooking, and just enjoying one another's company.
may everyone be blessed with family, peace, happiness, smiles, laughter, joy, yummy treats, and togetherness today. wish you were here!

Shadows

The other part of my class assignment is shadows and I began this one on my walk with my dad, too. Traipsing through mud and mud and wet grass, I found a few good shadows to begin with. I have two weeks to take these pictures, so more may come... but its a fun start.

Photographs and visitors

Dad had arrived, after a six and a half hour delay on Thursday... and its great to have him visit. He spent Friday running errands with Todd while I was at work, and by the time I got home both boys were all tired out. We had dinner in and were all in bed about 8 p.m.
Today, dad and I explored here so that I could take my next assignment's photos for my class... or at least begin. One assignment is to take pictures that are 90% sky. Mollie helped with this cause by scaring up some geese for me.

This is our roofline here on the barn, so I guess I am sticking with the goose theme.

And of course, this is not sky, but I am always up for photos of random objects. :-)

fog, how i love thee

Oh, how i love fog. it doesn't close a whole day, like snow does, but we have had our share of fog delays already this year... today included. i was already up, yoga-ed, showered, dressed and drinking my coffee before i got the call, but it was still glorious to have a restful morning, finish up some work, take a walk with the camera before my photography class tonight, and just be mellow. now i am off to said class and to making up te guest room for dad's arrival tomorrow. i can't wait!

worth it

it was a long drive, but well worth the trip.
todd and i drove up to my parents' on friday after work, or rather, todd drove and i slept. we arrived just after midnight and after some homemade applesauce, we fell to sleep quickly... or in my case, back to sleep.
of course, we also woke pretty early on saturday and mom and i were off to some craft fairs at the local churches to look mostly at things that you can't believe that people spend the time to make, or worse yet, that people buy... but we did find a thing or two, including a book sale and a thrift store selling some skirts that made my day.
we all went out to dinner that night at a thai place in great barrington and then to see Borat. i hate to build this movie up for you, but it was a riot. all of us left with splits in our side from laughing so hard, and its not often that a movie can do that to you.
so we laughed and drove home in good spirits on sunday morning. rather, todd drove, and i kept him company (thanks, baby). these shots are of the traffic and the rain that held us up along the way.

now the week ahead will be filled with guest prearation. dad arrives on thursday to begin the thanksgiving festivities and we will have the week-end with him before the rest of the family arrives on monday. we have a new guest bed arriving on wednesday, new curtains to hang and beds to make... floors to clean and grocery shopping to do. i love the bustle of preparations and can't wait to have everyone here.

TILT/F

Things I love today...

I love the ability for a scent to take me to another place and time. I love transporting back to club med through the smell of my face lotion, and the surge of emotions i felt then. finding todd, new love, energy, sunlight.
I love transporting on the crisp fall air back to my grandmother's house and the wet smell of her yard and trees and creek. I feel little all over again and it makes me want to run down a dewy hill or go inside for warmth under a blanket, with a whole new set of smells.

This is where I am today... in another place and time.

fun, fun, fun 'til my daddy took the...

it was amazing to have kevin here. the friend who is up for anything. how brave he was to accompany us to a contra dance and then the fun of driving with me to the beach on a blustery november day. it was great fun, and you can read his account here. it felt good to be out and be social at the dance, even with the older "ecclectic" crowd that it is. and it felt good to walk around in the sand and breathe in the cold, fresh air.

and it definitely felt good to eat three pounds of french fried potatoes. and it felt good, for real now, to discover that i am actually quite good at ski ball.
and overall, very fun, very happy-to-be-here-now, week-end. thanks, kevin.

did i mention the fun?

project underway

color. color. color.

i am excited for the week-end and hoping to have the time to delve back into the quilting of this colorful bad boy. this is willy's big boy quilt now that he has a big boy bed. i tried to use color and patterns that he would like- guitars, bugs, spiderman...
i am hoping to talk kevin into some crafting if there's time for that, too... but we'll see what the week-end has in store once he's here.
i am feeling incredibly free, and i hope to savor every last minute of these two days. Mmmm...

tilt

things i love, ah, the things i love...

i love the look of the fall tree leaves at dusk.
i love the time change and waking up during daylight hours (well, almost).
i love that my class is getting in line, or atleast tolerable, on the day to day.
i love that my classroom is getting organized and i am catching up with myself.
i love that a boy in my class was sent home. not that his behavior got him there, but that i had the administrative support to deal with the issue.
i love candy corn and the halloween remnants of it.
i love that kevin is coming to visit this week-end.
i love that we can all go to a local contra dance on saturday night (i hope!).
i love that todd is making burrios for dinner as i type away (thanks, lover).
i love that some blogging friends have links to my blog.
i love that i am enthralled in a good book that i can't wait to get back into every night.
i love that i just finished a good book on tape during my commute.
i love that today is thursday so tomorrow is friday so that the week-end is just around the corner.
i love the satisfaction of making it through another week.
