willy's new decoration

i gave willy his big boy quilt over christmas and it was really fun to give him a quilt as a gift (as he is now old enough to appreciate it). its his "spiderman blanket", although there's lots of other goodies on it, too- guitars, bugs, cows, balls, fish, children. for now, we could only cuddle up on it for story. he still prefers his crib. but he did tell dad that the quilt was just for "decoration". perhaps someday soon it will be more. :-)

crafters delight

my friend, robin, sent me this fabric a while back and i have been wondering what i could do with it. well, this year maggie is getting a doll crib for christmas so auntie em is making a doll blanket to go on maggie's baby. she doesn't check my blog, so i can post the project in progress. :-)

project underway

color. color. color.

i am excited for the week-end and hoping to have the time to delve back into the quilting of this colorful bad boy. this is willy's big boy quilt now that he has a big boy bed. i tried to use color and patterns that he would like- guitars, bugs, spiderman...
i am hoping to talk kevin into some crafting if there's time for that, too... but we'll see what the week-end has in store once he's here.
i am feeling incredibly free, and i hope to savor every last minute of these two days. Mmmm...

Week-end Project

This week-end has been a quiet one on the homefront and I felt like I needed it. Today I feel rested and ready for the week ahead. Tomorrow is parent conference day and then Tuesday will be my first substitute while I am away observing at another school.
After random errands throughout town yesterday: farmer's market, Goodwill, Post Office, recycling center, Humane Society, and lunch, Todd and I settled in for a nap and then a productive afternoon of quilting. Well, I quilted, and Todd played around updating his blog for the first time in a long time.
I have had this fabric ready for a quilt, just waiting for the right person, place, time, event, inspiration. Now I have it. We are off to a wedding in a couple of weeks and this picnic quilt will be my gift. Pillowcase Delight.
Thanks, Nina, for the inspiration in the wedding quilt that you gave us!

Afternoon delight

Last week's fun, but its a litle delayed. I am so tired after work that it is hard to do much except eat and sleep... and by sleep I mean an 8 o'clock bedtime. Its been an overwhelming experience so far, and I am just trying to be patient with the kids and myself... 3 weeks... its only been 3 weeks... and it takes time...

Anyhoo... last week's fun was bright and happy and I have been slow getting the fun in the mail... but if you are under the age of five, you should start watching your mailbox. :-)

and now I am eagerly awaiting Kevin's arrival... week-end news to report soon.
peace out.

A lesson in crafting

I attempt to make many things... and often the first round is just... shall we say, its a nice attempt? Most recently, I endevoured to make a hat. It was going to be a birthday gift... however, I strongly advise against having you first attempt at a project being a gift idea... start off slow and make one for yourself. That way, when you have to laugh out loud at your results, you can smile at the memory each time you think you might be brave enough to wear said project into public.

So, attempt number one was laughable. Laugh out loud until my gut hurt while I looked in the mirror laughable. The brim covered my entire face and there was so way to wear it without walking into walls. So attempt number two was cutting off half the brim and then sewing it back up in a very sloppy, circular kind of way. I think its fun, and admittedly, I do wear the hat... whether I should or not.
I just hope attmpt number there will actually be giftable item. :-)
