Self Portrait Tuesday

Mom and I spent all of Sunday afternoon eating lasagne soup and lemon cake. We intended to scrapbook and ended up taking a break from that to sort through all the old family photos.
We looked at old pictures of my mom and dad before we were born, youthful and under the influence of the 70's.
We looked at happy pictures of my childhood.
We threw away awful pictures of my teen years.
It all came back to this favorite photo of me as a baby.
There are so many emotions that digging through the past brings up.
This photo was before all of that.
Innocent. Pure. Tiny.

Day 165

The week-end's excitement has all boiled down to making whoopie pies.

Aside from errands, Project Runway, and walking Mollie, making whoopie pies was about all that we did.

I guess it fits in with my NY Resolution to make new foods- when I have a craving, we go to allrecipes and get a recipes, then the store for supplies, and then back to the kitchen to make it. Really it is quite an adventure. I also made yummy home-baked Mac and Cheese. Comfort food to sooth my most recent cold.

Day 163

Now that I know that Jill and Kevin have received their wedding quilt in the mail, I can post a few photos of my most recently completed project.
A twin size quilt, covered in butterflies.

It's only been a year in the making. :-)

Day 157

Week-end happiness

The day was spent kayaking on the local Kinderhook, cold water, warm air. Then we ran our errands and went out to dinner. This photo was the happy, satisfied end of the day. Pure love.

Day 156

Architectural Feats

Well, I can't post my kids... but I can post the block structure that has been underway all week. It finally collapsed on Friday, and then took 11 children and one adult 25 minutes to put all the blocks away.

I know this isn't amazing to many of you- but I was facinated watching them create the building with so many angles, balancing blocks on blocks, and then adding more blocks to be balanced on those... all at an angle.

In the end the structure was about 3 feet tall and 7 feet wide. Created by kids that very rarely use triangles it was a fun and unique process for a teacher to watch.

Day 148

Home sick...

Not homesick... but home and sick.
My fever just reached 100 and I know because I am addicted to taking my temperature. I check it every 5 minutes or so. It makes me feel better in a strange way. I think it measures for me that I really do feel like crap for a reason... and that I really am sick. Otherwise, I feel guilty for staying home and I feel lazy...
but it hurts to move.

Todd did take Mollie and I for a walk. I thought it would be good for me to get a bit of fresh air and to get off the couch.

This is how I felt.

This is no way to spend a long week-end.

Day 146

So, Nina suggested a link in her blog that asked you to think of your outrageous life goals and wishes... rather than just depressing "resolutions" for the new year.
I thought it'd be fun to post mine.

Goals for a lifetime

1. Kayak Costa Rica
2. Ski British Columbia
3. Travel to Australia or New Zealand

now that the travel is out of the way...

4. Make beautiful quilts
5. Take beautiful photos
6. Learn to sew clothes
7. a. Own a home
7. b. Decorate a home and make it beautiful.
8. Kayak class 3 water confidently (maybe even 4)
9. Learn to play the guitar
10. Really do yoga
11. Go gray gracefully.

Day 142

Well, we took Mollie to the vet today after eating at my all-time favorite restaurant in Bennington, VT... the Blue Benn Diner.

This is a small and always busy little diner that serves great food and has a huge menu... with lots of vegetarian options... and other goodies too... like fresh squeezed o.j. and homemade doughnuts.

Anyway, we ate a yummy breakfast and went to the vet. The vet was a nice old guy that we went to because he is "homeopathic" among other things. I have to say though, as open-minded as I thought I was about health care options, it still sounded a bit like "hoo ha". You can still spend a lot of money and know nothing. Plus, there isn't really anything wrong with Mollie... she is just getting older and maybe skinnier... and well, she throws up alot, too.

We are going to return her to natural dietary supplements and see how things go.

In honor of Mollie Jane... I have these cute photos from her Christmas bath.

Why does Todd have this intense look on his face?

The bigger question might be... why do they take a camera when they bathe their dog?

Self Portrait Tuesday

Not of the theme... exactly... but... being an auntie is amazing.

Day 137

Congrats, Carissa!

Just a shout out to my friend Carissa on her newly announced engagement. How exciting to get engaged on Christmas Eve day and be in the planning process for this summer!
Carissa and I shared a long drive to the Ottawa River last summer, with lots of long talks about marriage and boys and love and everything else (it was a long drive!) The photo is of her rocking one of the rapids.

I am so very excited for you!

Day 136

Happy New Year!

Todd and I did go out last night. Despite my desire to stay home, eat chinese, cuddle, and watch movies. We had a lot of fun however, skiing at Jiminy Peak and then watching the torch parade and fire works. I squirmed my way out of hanging out in the bar with scantily clad drunk women... while I was in sneakers and my ski gear. We made it home in time to heat up the left-over chinese food and watch the ball drop on t.v. It was a nice ending to a happy year gone by- and a nice beginning for what we hope to be a fun year ahead.

I am bracing for back to school and I am getting ready to be a better person in the new year... Well, strive to be anyway. As much as I do not agree with the concept of new year's resolutions, I do think that January 1st makes a good day to sit and reflect on where you are and who you are... and to set goals.
So I do have a list of new year's goals. I will have to keep you posted on their progress.

1. Eat more healthy foods, especially for dinner.
2. Cook and eat new foods, trying out new recipes, and getting creative.
3. Take more photos. This one should be easy now that Todd bought the delciously easy to use new camera that takes amazing photos.
4. Read more, especially for pleasure. (This also means watch less t.v.)
5. Forgive myself more when things don't turn out just right.
6. Scrapbook my life.
7. Make and give more gifts.
8. Make/Finish four quilts to give away this year.
9. Breathe deeply.

Deep breath.

Peace to you all and best wishes with your personal goals.
